Musician. Actor. Director.

Hello! My name is Makari Robinson-McNeese. I am a multidisciplinary artist, based in Chicago and local to the St. Louis area. From a very young age, I was always drawn to creation. Making art that was able to reach people was an ideal that I latched on to early on.

I grew up singing in church choirs, started doing theatre consistently in my childhood, and decided I wanted to direct too by high school. I always knew making things was what I wanted to do for my entire life in any way that I could. Sticking to one field of artistry was never going to be satisfying me. Forever destined to be a multi-hyphenate, but you know what they say: the best things come in threes…

As an artist I studied at the Sargent Conservatory of Theatre Arts with a focus in directing. I have had the privilege to perform and work with groups like the Steppenwolf Theatre Company, the Reparatory Theatre of St. Louis, Redtwist Theatre, and the ACTION Arts Collaborative.

In my studies and experience, I’ve moved to a strong focus on physical theatre, devised movement, and dance theatre. Along with these technical artistic interests, I also aim to make sure that the art that I create and produce work to lift up and shine a light on the culture, struggles, and joys of marginalized communities that struggle to find a voice within the arts.
